During my time in the AIAA UW-Madison Chapter, I have held multiple roles including Social Media Coordinator, Structures 2023 Team Lead, 2024 Team Lead, and President. I have attended two Spaceport America Cups and worked on fuel grain for the hybrid engine. Through these roles, I have learned so much about engineering and rocketry. This invaluable experience has presented me with numerous challenges, providing rich material for interviews in the aerospace industry. Additionally, I’ve had the opportunity to meet incredible people and make lasting friendships. The skills, knowledge, and connections I gained through the club were instrumental in helping me land my job in aerospace. Without being a part of this club, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this milestone in my career.
UW Madison’s AIAA chapter offered me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by applying the skills that I had learned in the classroom. It gave me the chance to dive into the awesome world of high-powered rocketry from L1 certification flights to the largest intercollegiate rocketry competition in the world, making great friends along the way. I had the fortune of being a leader for this club and the Spaceport team, gaining experience managing projects, navigating design processes, and organizing individuals with a diverse set of skills. Being a part of AIAA gave me the engineering experience that I lacked in terms of internships as an undergraduate student, providing me with a unique way to stand out to potential employers. It’s a club that you truly will get out what you put into it and I would highly recommend it to anyone that is interested in rocketry or aerospace – there are numerous opportunities for students across many disciplines.
